Figure Drawing for

Beginners

Using a nude model as your subject, learn simple

techniques to draw the human figure. In the

galleries, see how figure drawing can be applied

to portraiture and sculpture. Then in the studio,

gain an understanding of basic anatomy and how

to use charcoal and pencil to depict volume.

Soltero Figure Drawing Presentation at SD Comic Con, 2011

Soltero was joined by two great artists, Alex Nino and Stephen Silver. The three rooms were filled to capacity with over 300 attendees. A problem at the beginning with no Elmo, but it was resolved.

 There were three volunteers who modeled. Thank you for your help and feel free to contact us.
Alex did an inking demo (inking over a very rough Buscema layout) and Stephen had great tips on drawing, including gesture drawing.

5:00p.m. - 6:00p.m. Figure Drawing for Popular Media: Emilio Soltero, PhD (Draw the line; Figure It Out; John Buscema: A Life in Sketches), presents a primer on drawing the figure for popular media, including drawing for comics and character design. Lecture and demonstration on figure drawing. There will be some cool giveaways and a chance to draw as well. Join Emilio and friends (one designed Kim Possible the other worked on Mulan) for this active presentation. Come ready to take notes and to draw. Room 30CDE

New books by great folks, artists:

* Kevin Nowlan has a great new sketchbook...look for it

* Sergio Aragones is coming out with his new comic book, Funnies, from Bongo. I believe in July.

This will include many ideas that he had, including some personal ones, eg how he earned his firsr peso.
